307 Disabled Athletes Participate in Jakarta Paralympic Week 2023

As many as 307 disabled athletes from Jakarta will participate in the Jakarta Paralympic Week 2023, officially opened at the Pulogadung District Youth Center, East Jakarta, Tuesday (9/19).

Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency (Dispora) Head, Andri Yansyah said that from 307 athletes, 74 were from Central Jakarta, 40 were from North Jakarta, 45 were from West Jakarta, 78 were from East Jakarta, and 78 were from South Jakarta.

He explained this year's Paralympic Week carries the theme "Hambatan Bukan Halangan untuk Meraih Prestasi" (Obstacles do not impede attaining an achievement). Sports coaching for disabled people has been included in the Jakarta Regional Strategic Activities (KSD) for 2021-2023.
"This is believed to be useful in providing opportunities for them to excel, increase fitness, self-confidence, and passion for life," he explained.
Sports Culture Division Head, Tedi Cahyono added the Jakarta Paralympic Week 2023 will begin from September 19 to 21, 2023.
"There will be around 307 athletes in this competition accompanied by a total of 98 officials," he explained.
He added it would also be a means of monitoring potential athletes for the Peparnas 2024 in Aceh and North Sumatra.
"Hopefully, Jakarta's achievements in the Peparnas event can be better than last year. Our target is to at least get into the top three," he stated.
